On March 14, Lomira boys basketball lost 58-56 to Cambridge in a thrilling Sectional Final overtime game, one step away from their first state appearance since 2000 and ending the Lions’ 17-game winning streak. Lomira (26-2) sprinted out to an early 8-0 lead over Cambridge (19-9) highlighted by five points from senior point guard on an offensive rebound and a three-pointer after a Blake Steger steal, causing Cambridge to call a timeout with 16:04 in the first half.

Lions Roar into Sectionals for the Second Straight Year

On March 7, Lomira boys basketball defeated the fourth-seeded Markesan 88-60 to advance to sectionals for the second straight season to play third-seeded Pardeeville on March 11. Lomira (25-1) sprinted out to a 15-3 lead over Markesan (18-7), highlighted by five points from Keegan Kell and capped off by a two-hand thunderous dunk from Jake Broeske, which sent the Lomira home crowd into a frenzied state. Charlie Cole and Blake Steger each scored seven points over the next four minutes to help propel the Lions to a 30-18 lead before the Hornets scored five straight points to close the gap on the scoreboard to 30-23 with 7:14 left in the first half.

Lomira Girls Advance to State for the First Time in 33 Years

On March 7, Lomira girls basketball beat Kenosha St. Joseph’s 61-57 in the Division Four Sectional Final to advance to the program’s first state appearance since 1993. Lomira (22-6) jumped out to a 6-0 lead over Kenosha St. Joseph’s (21-7), started by a steal and layup from sophomore star Josie Christian. St. Joe’s responded to take an 11-7 lead before J. Christian and Kennedy Goebel scored baskets to tie the game at 11 at the nine-minute mark of the first half. The Lions got six more points from J. Christian the rest of the half to go into the halftime break trailing 23-17 to the Lancers.

Lions Lisiecki Finishes on the Podium at State

On Feb 26-28, Lomira wrestling sent two wrestlers (Jordan Lisiecki and Kolton Wagnoer to compete in the WIAA State Wrestling Tournament at the Kohl Center in Madison. Lisiecki (39-6) finished his junior year on the state podium with a fourth-place finish in his 132-pound class.

Lions Finishes Conference Season a Perfect 14-0

On Feb. 26, the Lomira boys basketball team defeated Mayville 83-59 on the road, finishing the season 14-0 in the Flyway Conference. Lomira (23-1, 14-0) led 12-6 over Mavyille (13-9, 10-4) after a deep three-pointer from Charlie Cole and a three from Keegan Kell. Jake Broeske scored eight straight points for the Lions to give them a 22-19 lead before Talan Meyer scored consecutive points to give Mayville a 23-22 lead, causing the Lomira to call a timeout with nine minutes left in the first half.
