The Horicon Marshmen’s (17-8) tournament run came to a close on Saturday as they fell to the Pardeeville Bulldogs (18-7) with a final score of 75-53 in the WIAA Division 4 Regional Final. The highly anticipated matchup between the two-seeded Marshmen and three-seeded Bulldogs was a hard-fought battle, but Pardeeville ultimately pulled away in the second half.
Horicon started the regional final strong, with senior Christian Schwartz sinking a three-pointer to open the scoring, mirroring the Marshmen’s start to the previous night’s game. Senior Barrett Meyer had a standout performance, connecting on four three-pointers in the first half alone and tying the game at 11-11 around the eight-minute mark. A consecutive three-pointer from Meyer put the Marshmen ahead 14-11, but Pardeeville managed to secure a 30-23 lead by halftime.
The second half was a back-and-forth affair that saw a continued barrage of three-point shooting from Horicon. Jay Graven, Reed Vorlob, Quin Jackl, Schwartz, and Meyer all contributed to the long-range attack. Meyer tied the game for the second time at 42 points with just over ten minutes remaining. However, the game began to slip away shortly thereafter, as Pardeeville took the lead with two free throws. The Marshmen were down by ten points in the final minutes.
The end of the game was marked by an emotional moment as Meyer fouled out of his final game as a Marshman. This triggered a string of substitutions and pauses to honor the team’s other seniors: Christian Schwartz, Jay Graven, Quin Jackl, Reed Vorlob, and Logan Robenhorst. Despite the resilient effort and strong senior leadership, Horicon was unable to overcome the deficit, ending their season and tournament journey with the 75-53 loss.
