On October 9, Lomira football defeated Winnebago Lutheran Academy 24-7 on the road in their Flyway Conference matchup.
Lomira’s (8-0, 6-0) defense forced a three-and-out on WLA’s (4-4, 3-3) first offensive possession, giving the ball to the Lions.
Hunter Schaumberg broke a couple of tackles at the line of scrimmage, then sprinted away from the Vikings' defenders for a 57-yard rushing touchdown, giving Lomira a 7-0 lead in the first quarter.
The Lions defense stopped the Vikings on a three-and-out again, featuring a tackle for a two-yard loss from a pack of defenders led by Mason Schelvan.
Lomira pushed their lead to 14-0 at the 1:14 mark in the first quarter when Schaumberg scored his second touchdown of the game by carrying a couple of defenders into the end zone for a six-yard score.
The Lions offense drove inside the Vikings' five-yard line before settling for a 24-yard field goal by Aiden Stoffel at the 6:21 mark in the second quarter.
WLA scored their only touchdown when Evan Cole threw a 30-yard touchdown pass, putting the score at 17-7 in favor of the Lions at halftime.
Lomira’s quarterback, Keegan Kell, scored a 19-yard rushing touchdown, weaving through the WLA defense for the Lions with 7:28 in the third quarter, increasing the lead to 24-7.
Lomira’s defense shut out the Vikings in the second half and showed their strength on the final drive with a Jackson Breitlow sack, then finished off with a Schuamberg interception for the 24-7 road win.
The Lions' win clinches at least a share of the Flyway Conference title, with the opportunity for the title outright against Mayville on October 16 at home.
