Starry Night on the Marsh

Posted

On Friday, Sept. 25, the Horicon Marsh Education and Visitor Center hosted Starry Night on the Marsh: Harvest Moon and Starlit Skies. The event was held between the time of 5-8 p.m. with many fun activities for the family to enjoy, both inside and outside.

The event primarily focused on night time wildlife at the marsh as well as the moon and the stars. From 5-7 p.m., families were invited to join the Friends of Horicon Marsh, the Horicon Marsh DNR staff and local participating libraries – Beaver Dam, Brownsville, Iron Ridge, Waupan, Juneau, Horicon and Mayville – for fun craft and activities, including Play Doh Tracks, Migration Plink, Firefly Craft and many moon and stars crafts. Families were even able to decorate their own tote bags to carry any crafts or trinkets they may have gathered throughout the event. Bags were only limited to one bag per family, but other craft allowed for each child and family member to participate if they so wished.

Once families were done outside, they were invited to walk the 1.3 mile Storybook Trail, which became illuminated by candlelight once it became dark.

Also at the event was the Big Blue Yummy food truck for families to grab a bite to eat. At 6:30 p.m., they put on a bonfire and concessions.

The event had a really good turnout, with families coming in and out all throughout the night.
