February, 8, 2025 - Mayville, WI - Mayville hosted the Wisconsin Flyway Conference Wrestling Tournament on Saturday, Feb. 8, where several Cardinals put together strong performances on the mat.
At 106 pounds, Logan Puls started strong with a first-round pin over Lomira’s Chloe Loughrin in 1:55. After falling in the semifinals to Campbellsport’s Logan Knoeck, Puls rebounded with a consolation semifinal pin over Alvin Nguyen of St. Lawrence Seminary (4:24). He finished in fourth place after falling to North Fond du Lac/St. Mary’s Springs’ Isaac Kelnhofer in the third-place match.
In the 120-pound bracket, Parker Bangart dominated his quarterfinal match with a technical fall (15-0 in 2:21) over Thane Glewen of Laconia. He advanced to the finals with a semifinal pin over Kael Huempfner of North Fond du Lac/St. Mary’s Springs (1:04). Bangart finished as the runner-up, falling in the championship match to Omro’s Mason Malnory by fall (2:26).
At 157 pounds, Dominic Schuelke opened with a technical fall victory (18-2 in 4:00) over Lomira’s Cyle Zinner. In the semifinals, he fell to Laconia’s Nick Starbird (17-1 TF, 4:00) and was eliminated in the consolation semifinals after a pin by North Fond du Lac/St. Mary’s Springs’ Isaac Everson (3:08).
Kellen Schaefer competed in the 215-pound division, dropping his quarterfinal match to Laconia’s Owen Larson (1:12). After receiving a bye in the first consolation round, he fell to Lomira’s Trent Kulczewski (4:23) in the consolation semifinals and finished in sixth place after a fifth-place match loss to Campbellsport’s Zach Zimdahl (0:46).
Mayville wrestlers will now look ahead to WIAA regionals, where they hope to continue their season and qualify for sectionals.
Mayville wrestling traveled to Kewaskum for the Flyway Regional Tournament on Saturday, Feb. 15.
