The Mayville track and field team closed out an impressive 2026 season at the WIAA Division 2 McFarland Sectional on Friday, May 29, 2026, highlighted by Mac Livingston becoming the program’s first state qualifier since Edy Marx went to State in the Pole Vault in June 2023.
Competing against some of the top athletes in Division 2, the Cardinals recorded nine season-best performances and continued the steady improvement that defined the season from start to finish.
Livingston earned his trip to the WIAA State Track and Field Championships with a fourth-place finish in the 110-meter hurdles (15.54). His qualifying time was a personal best and ranks as the fourth-fastest performance in Mayville High School history.
“Mac has worked incredibly hard and really peaked at the right time,” head coach Bob Berry said. “To become our first state qualifier in four years is a tremendous accomplishment.”
Livingston also placed seventh in the pole vault, clearing 12 feet, and finished 12th in the 300-meter hurdles (42.35) while posting another personal-best time.
The Cardinals produced several other strong performances despite facing one of the toughest sections in the state. Emerson Mittelstadt cleared 6 feet in the high jump to place in a three way tie for seventh, while Braxton Wiese turned in his fastest 100-meter dash of the season.
On the girls' side, the 3200-meter relay team of Sidney Davis, Samara Herzog, Bella Wege and Metta Genz placed ninth (10:44.35) while recording a season-best time. The 800-meter relay team of Aubree Koput, Neva Mittelstadt, Lydia Case and Laila Dobberphul also posted a season-best performance and finished 13th (1:51.29).
Davis added another milestone performance in the 1600-meter run, finishing 12th (5:41.01)with the second-fastest time in Mayville school history. The 1600-meter relay team of Davis, Herzog, Case, and Koput also closed the season with a season-best effort and a 14th-place finish.
Berry said the sectional results reflected the growth and dedication shown throughout the year.
“We had a great season with constant improvement across the entire team,” Berry said. “This group of athletes was a lot of fun to work with, and I’m proud of how they competed all season.”
With a strong core of underclassmen returning and several athletes ending the season with personal and school-record performances, Berry believes the future remains bright for the Cardinals.
“It will be exciting to see how good these returning athletes can become,” he said. “They’ve established a strong foundation and have shown they can compete with some of the best athletes in the state.”
Division 2 State Track meet was held at Veterans Memorial Stadium on the campus of UW-LaCrosse with events beginning Friday, May 5, 2026.
