Posted

On October 2, Lomira football won 66-7 over NFDL on the road in their Flyway Conference matchup, improving to 7-0 on the season.

Sophomore Running Back Hunter Schaumberg burst through a gaping hole created by his offensive line on the first offensive play and sprinted away from the rest of the NFDL (0-7, 0-5) defense for a 90-yard rushing touchdown, giving Lomira (7-0, 5-0) a 7-0 lead at 11:41 in the first quarter.

Lomira’s defense forced a three-and-out, led by Junior Defensive Lineman Mason Schelvan, who got into the backfield on second down for a tackle for no gain, giving the Lions the ball back at the Orioles' 36-yard line after a punt.

The Lions’ drive ended with Schaumberg’s three-yard rushing touchdown, giving Lomira a 14-0 lead at the 5:30 mark in the first quarter.

The defense forced another three-and-out, highlighted by a seven-yard tackle for a loss by Senior Linebacker Keegan Kell for Lomira.

Kell scored a touchdown on a 21-yard quarterback keeper, finishing off a 59-yard drive in four plays, increasing the Lions' lead to 21-0 with 43 seconds left in the first quarter.

Lomira’s defense got the ball back for their offense when Junior Linebacker Jackson Breitlow recovered an NFDL fumble, giving the Lions the ball at the Orioles 13-yard line.

The Lions wasted little time when Schaumberg dashed into the end zone for a 13-yard rushing touchdown, pushing the Lions' lead to 28-0 at the end of the first quarter.

Senior Linebacker Lane Pastorius tackled the Orioles runner in the backfield to stop the next NFDL offensive drive and quickly return the ball to the Lions offense.

Schaumberg had an impressive 20-yard run through the NFDL defenders near the Lions sideline, and Kell completed three passes to Senior Wide Receiver Jackson Bloohm for 35 yards, with their final passing connection going for a 13-yard touchdown to expand the Lomira lead to 35-0 with 8:39 remaining in the second quarter.

Lomira’s special teams forced a fumble on the ensuing kickoff, giving the ball right back to the Lions offense, which Lomira turned into a 32-yard field goal from Aiden Stoffel to push the lead to 38-0 with 4:05 left before halftime.

Senior Defensive Back Alex Zahn intercepted a floating NFDL pass for the Lions, giving the Lomira offense the ball back at the NFDL 42-yard line.

Schaumberg (206 rushing yards on nine carries) scored his fourth touchdown of the game with another burst through the Orioles' defense, giving Lomira a 45-0 lead with three minutes left in the first half.

Lomira’s defense held NFDL to one negative yard of total offense at halftime after Junior Brenden Steinke and Schelvan combined to sack the NFDL quarterback for a five-yard loss.

Senior Running Back Elijah James continued the Lions' scoring when he went untouched into the end zone for a 55-yard rushing touchdown in the third quarter with 8:37 on the clock for a 52-0 Lomira lead.

The Lions’ backup quarterback Jackson Breitlow scored on an 11-yard rushing touchdown, taking advantage of the short field after NFDL went for fourth down at their own 27-yard line to increase the Lomira lead to 59-0 with 5:02 left in the third quarter.

Lomira scored their final touchdown of the game when sophomore running back Preston Renfroe scored a two-yard rushing touchdown, putting the score at 66-0 in favor of the Lions with 7:30 left in the game.

The Lions offense ran for 397 yards, led by their offensive line of Senior Lane Pastorius, Senior Mason Sponholz, Junior Cash Agamaite, Junior Cole Geiger, and Sophomore Brant Lindert.

NFDL scored a touchdown with six seconds left to avoid being shut out in the 66-7 dominating conference win for Lomira.
