The Mayville Athletic Booster Club honored Brian Thom as the 2026 recipient of the Katie Award during Friday night’s festivities.
The award, presented annually in memory of Katie Schwichtenberg, recognizes exceptional support and dedication to Mayville athletics.
Thom, a 1986 Hustisford High School graduate, has spent the past 17 years volunteering with youth and high school athletics in Mayville. His service began as a youth baseball coach in 2009 and has grown to include coaching, officiating, statistics, event management and other behind-the-scenes roles.
From 2009-18, Thom coached multiple levels of Mayville youth baseball and served on the program’s board. He later volunteered with the Mayville High School baseball program from 2015-20 and served as a football statistician from 2021-24.
Thom has also volunteered with youth football, St. John’s volleyball, basketball, track and field and numerous Mayville varsity events.
In recent years, Thom has become especially involved with the Mayville volleyball program as a volunteer coach. He also designed and helped lead the transformation of Mayville’s football field into an outdoor volleyball court, making possible Wisconsin’s first sanctioned outdoor high school volleyball match.
“Brian Thom’s commitment to Mayville athletics is measured not simply in years of service, but in the countless athletes, teams, coaches and programs he has supported throughout the years,” the Booster Club said during Friday’s presentation.
Thom and his wife, Tracy, raised their children, Andrew and Aubrey, in Mayville.
