Husticon Football Earns First Win at Marshall

On October 2, Husticon football won 8-6 against Marshall on the road in their Eastern Suburban Conference matchup for the first win of the season.

Husticon’s (1-6, 1-4) Senior Linebacker Kaleb Hodgson recovered a Marshall (3-4, 1-4) fumble at the Cardinals' 17-yard line.

Junior Quarterback Anthony Kluck scored a 17-yard rushing touchdown and a run on the two-point conversion to take an 8-0 lead at the 5:10 mark in the first quarter.

Freshman Eleazar Selgrad recovered a fumble for Husticon at the Marshall 46-yard line on the ensuing kickoff, but the Cardinals intercepted a Husticon pass on the first play of the offensive drive to give the ball back to Marshall.

Husticon got to the Marshall 34-yard line in the second quarter, but the drive didn’t result in any points, leaving the score 8-0 in favor of the Marshfalcons at the halftime break.

Junior Linebacker Isaiah Hollingsworth got a big seven-yard tackle for loss for Husticon, ending Marshall's first drive of the second half.

Marshall got the ball at the Husticon’s 25-yard line after a Marshfalcons’ punt, and the Cardinals cashed in when Ryan Braun scored a 13-yard rushing touchdown with 8:33 in the third quarter.

Husticon’s defense rose to the occasion by stopping the Marshall two-point run attempt to keep the lead at 8-6.

The Marshfalcons drove to the Marshall 30-yard line before the Cardinals intercepted a pass in the end zone on fourth down early in the fourth quarter.

Marshall’s final drive of the game started when the Cardinals intercepted a pass and returned it to the Husticon 30-yard line with six minutes left in the game.

The Cardinals got the ball to the Husticon 15-yard line with 3:18 on the clock after a roughing-the-passer call on the Marshall quarterback.

Marshall was facing a fourth down at the Marshfalcons’ nine-yard line when it appeared the Cardinals scored the game-winning touchdown with 46 seconds left, but Marshall was called for a holding penalty, taking the touchdown off the scoreboard.

Husticon's defense stopped Marshall from scoring on the second fourth-down attempt as the pass bounced off the wide receiver in the end zone, giving Husticon the ball back with 38 seconds left.

The Marshfalcons ran out the remaining seconds to secure the 8-6 road win for their first win in Coach Selgrad’s first season at Husticon.
