The City of Horicon has issued a notice to all property owners, occupants, and land controllers to destroy all noxious weeds on their land before the plants bloom. The list of noxious weeds includes Canada thistle, common ragweed, great ragweed, leafy spurge, creeping jenny or field bindweed, goat’s beard, poison ivy, bull thistle, wild parsnip, burdock, cocklebur, pigweed, common lamb’s quarters, curled dock, and English plantain.
Noxious weeds are more than just an eyesore, they are aggressive “habitat transformers” that outcompete native Wisconsin vegetation. In Dodge County, these plants threaten the region’s agricultural productivity by reducing crop yields and degrading soil health.
Residents seeking information on effective control methods—such as specific chemical treatments, mowing schedules, or manual removal—are encouraged to check online to learn more.
For more information on weed control, residents are encouraged to visit the city’s website at https://www.horiconwi.gov/. Cody Vanderhei serves as the city’s weed commissioner.
