The Mayville High School track and field team opened the 2026 indoor season on a strong note Friday, March 20, at the 16-team Princeton Invite held at Ripon College, head coach Bob Berry noted, “ as a coaching staff, we couldn’t have asked for a better start.”
Our boys squad finished second with 81.5 points, while the girls battled to a tie for second with 58 points. Across both teams, we saw 33 performances surpass last year’s meet marks—a clear sign that the work put in during the offseason is paying off early.
On the boys' side, our senior leadership set the tone. Emerson Mittelstadt delivered a standout performance, winning the high jump, placing second in the high hurdles, and running on the second-place 800m relay alongside Braxton Wiese, Mac Livingston, and Andy Chen. Mac Livingston had an impressive meet, taking first in the high hurdles and second in the pole vault. Braxton Wiese added a second-place finish in the 60-meter dash and placed fourth in the long jump.
Mayville also saw strong efforts from Owen Bronecki, who took fourth in the 400m and helped the 3200m relay team—along with Adam Boehnlein, Reed Schmidt, and Phoenix Ellingson, finishing fourth. Andy Chen added depth with a fourth-place finish in the 60m and sixth in the long jump.
For the girls, Aubree Koput and Sidney Davis each brought home three medals. Sidney placed fourth in the 1600m and ran on the third-place 3200m relay with Samara Herzog, Bella Wege, and Crystal Mueller. She also contributed to another relay effort with Aubree Koput, Lydia Case, and Helen Vanderloop. Aubree had a strong individual showing as well, finishing second in the high jump and third in the 400m.
The Cardinals had several other athletes step up with solid performances. Lydia Case placed fourth in the pole vault and sixth in the hurdles. Geneva Mittelstadt impressed in her first high school meet with fifth-place finishes in both the high jump and hurdles. Laila Dobberphul also had a strong debut, taking fifth in the 200m and sixth in the 60m.
What stood out most was the team-wide effort. “Our seniors showed great leadership in a large, competitive meet, and while some of our newer athletes didn’t place, their performances showed a lot of promise for the weeks ahead. This was a great first meet to what should be a fun track season,” said Berry.
Mayville will look to build on this momentum as they head to the next indoor meet at Watertown on Saturday, March 28, at 10 a.m.
