Posted

Mayville opened a busy week of action Tuesday, Jan. 20, at the Dodgeland Quad, taking on Laconia and Dodgeland. Against Laconia, sophomore Parker Bangart (138) continued his strong season with a technical fall victory, defeating his opponent 20-3 at the 4:22 mark. Dominic Schuelke competed at 165 pounds and was pinned at 5:51. With limited entries, Mayville fell 60-11 to Laconia.

In the second dual of the night, Mayville faced Dodgeland and picked up three wins. Freshman Kalvin Ditscheit (132) and sophomore Parker Bangart (138) both earned wins by forfeit, while sophomore Dominic Schuelke (165) also collected a forfeit victory. Despite the three wins, the Cardinals came up short on the scoreboard, falling 24-18 to Dodgeland.

Vs Lomira

The Cardinals returned home Thursday, Jan. 22, to host Lomira for Youth and Alumni Night. Youth wrestlers lined the mat during the National Anthem, and Mayville wrestling alumni were recognized prior to the start of the dual.

The match began at 126 pounds, where Mitchell Roa-Brown earned a win by injury default. Kalvin Ditscheit dropped his match at 138 pounds by fall at 3:39, before Parker Bangart responded with a 19-3 technical fall victory at 144 in just 2:15. Dominic Schuelke added another highlight with a pin at 4:16 in the 165-pound bout. Although Mayville won three of the four contested matches, Lomira claimed the dual 54-17 due to forfeits stemming from Mayville’s small roster.

Mayville’s Saturday competition at Omro results available after print time. Looking ahead, the Cardinals travel to St. Lawrence Seminary on Thursday, Jan. 29, and then head to Laconia on Friday, Jan. 30, to close out the week.
