On Thursday, October 16, St. Mary’s Springs hosted the Flyway Conference Cross Country Meet at Rolling Meadows Golf Course. It was an ideal evening for racing, and Mayville athletes delivered strong performances across all divisions. The varsity girls’ team placed second out of eight teams with 53 total runners, and the varsity boys’ team finished sixth in a field of nine teams and 63 total runners. The JV girls' team also earned second place.
Sidney Davis led the Cardinals with a third-place finish, earning First Team All-Conference honors and recording the second-fastest time in the Mayville girls’ program history at 20:21.1. Mette Genz placed 16th for the girls, earning her Second Team All-Conference honors.
For the boys, Adam Boehnlein finished 13th, earning Second Team All-Conference honors. He was followed by Caden Lindgren (19th), Reid Schmidt (36th), Mac Livingston (40th), Tristen Feucht (43rd), Phoenix Ellingson (45th), and Ian Meyrose (62nd).
Honorable Mention All-Conference honors went to Samara Herzog (19th), Crystall Mueller (20th), and Destiny Giese (22nd) on the girls’ side.
Overall, 18 of Mayville’s 20 high school runners recorded lifetime best times at the meet.
In the JV girls’ competition, Mayville placed second behind Lomira with strong finishes from Helen Vanderloop (3rd), Alex Shoemaker (4th), Pearl Witek (7th), Layla Budahn (11th), and Magdalene Beavers (14th).
In junior high racing, Marcus Genz placed third, Eli Mageski finished sixth, and Norah Billington took fourth.
Looking to next week, non-sectional runners will compete at Lomira on Thursday, Oct. 23, at 4:15 p.m. near the Lomira track. The WIAA D3 Sectional 7 meet will be held Saturday, Oct. 25, at Sheboygan Lutheran High School, with boys racing at 10:45 a.m. and girls at 11:30 a.m.
