Posted

The Mayville track and field teams continued their strong start to the season at the Watertown Indoor Invite on Saturday, April 5. The boys placed third out of 10 teams, while the girls finished fourth in another highly competitive meet.
The boys were led by three event champions. The 4x160m relay team of Braxton Wiese, Chase Merritt, Landon Baker, and Joren Schlender sprinted to first place in 1:22.01 — the fastest time Mayville has ever recorded at this meet. In the pole vault, Mac Livingston cleared 12’0” to claim the top spot, while Schlender soared to a second-place finish in the long jump with a leap of 20’4”. The boys’ 4x800m relay team also earned a strong second-place finish with Xander Schowalter, Owen Bronecki, Landon Pestka, and Parker Bangart.
Additional top performances came from Schlender (second in 200m), Livingston (third in 200m hurdles, fourth in 55m hurdles, fifth in high jump), and Wiese (fifth in 55m, fourth in long jump).
On the girls’ side, Lydia Case continued her standout season by winning the pole vault at 8’6” and placing third in the 55m hurdles and fourth in the 200m hurdles. Distance runners led the way as Sidney Davis (second in 1600m), Mette Gentz (second in 3200m), and Samara Herzog (third in 800m) all secured podium finishes. The girls’ 4x800m relay team of Davis, Herzog, Crystal Mueller, and Gentz added another second-place finish to round out a solid day.
Coach Berry was pleased with his team’s performance, stating, “We again showed a lot of potential with some excellent efforts led by Livingston in the pole vault. Also, the four-lap boys were super with the best time we have ever run at this meet.”

Mayville will return to outdoor action next week, hosting the Berry Invite on Thursday, April 10, with the first event at 4:15 p.m..
