Mayville Boys Second, Girls Second at Marshland Invite

Posted

Despite another night of rain and cold temperatures, Mayville track delivered strong performances while hosting the 10-team Marshland Invite on Thursday, May 1. Facing tough competition, the Cardinals saw the boys' team place second overall with 129.5 points, while the girls also claimed second place with 121.5 points.

Top highlights for the boys included a first-place finish in the 4x800 relay (Bronecki, Bangart, Schowalter, Petska), and another first place for Mac Livingston in the pole vault (11’6”). Livingston also earned runner-up in the 110m hurdles and added points in the high jump and 300m hurdles. Joren Schlender had a standout night in the jumps, finishing second in the long jump and third in the triple jump. Sprinters Braxton Wiese and Chase Merritt helped secure key relay points and placed well individually.

On the girls' side, Aubrey Thom won the 100m hurdles in 17.17 and added a fifth-place finish in the 100m dash and took third in the long jump. Lydia Case also claimed a win in the 300m hurdles and finished third in the 100m hurdles, while anchoring the 4x400 relay to a third-place finish with Schellpfeffer, Davis, and Herzog. Case added another first-place finish in pole vault ( 8’6”), with teammates Giese and Harris helping secure additional vault points.

Mayville’s distance crew contributed heavily with Davis, Herzog, Genz, Brotcke, and Shoemaker scoring in all distance races from 800m through 3200m, including a runner-up finish in the girls' 4x800.

The Cardinals continue to show depth and determination heading into the final stretch of the season.

Looking ahead to a busy week, the Cardinals hosted the Varsity Freshman and Sophomore Meet on Monday, and traveled to Springs on Tuesday, May 6. Mayville Track will take it on the road again on Friday, May 9, traveling to Waterloo for the Pirate Invitational.

Mayville Boys & Girls Take Third at Home Quad

On Tuesday, April 29, Mayville hosted a five-team conference track and field meet featuring Omro, St. Mary’s Springs, Lomira, and St. Lawrence Seminary. Both the boys and girls teams placed third overall, with the girls scoring 174 points and the boys finishing with 127.

“Mayville had six athletes away at sixth-grade camp and one out with injury, so the final scores could have looked different,” the coaching staff noted.

The girls were led by standout performances from senior Aubrey Thom, who won the 100m hurdles (17.57) and placed third in the 100m dash. Lydia Case earned runner-up in both the 100m and 300m hurdles and helped power the 4x400 relay to a second-place finish alongside Allison Schellpfeffer, Sidney Davis, and Samara Herzog. Herzog also helped lead the 4x800 relay to a win with teammates Genz, Giese, and Davis.

On the boys’ side, Braxton Wiese sprinted to a win in the 100m dash and the long jump and anchored relay teams in both the 4x100 and 4x200. Mac Livingston cleared 11’6” to win the pole vault and added top-five finishes in the hurdles and high jump. Mayville’s relays and jumpers continued to show strength with key contributions from Schowalter, Schlender, and others.

The Cardinals competed hard despite the lineup challenges and showed promising depth as the postseason approaches.
