Horicon Students Learn About Pool Construction with Neuman Pools

Posted

Last week, Horicon High School’s manufacturing class, taught by Mr. Mark Boehmer, welcomed Curt Patrouille and Chad Haase with Neuman Pools, Inc. into the classroom for a week-long trades program intended to introduce high school students to trade professions.
Horicon is the third school to take advantage of this opportunity as Neuman Pools has also brought this program to Beaver Dam and Waupun High Schools.
Juniors and seniors in Mr. Boehmer’s manufacturing class were tasked with constructing three-by-three-foot mock walls that are meant to represent a pool’s wall and floor structure.
The students began their project on Thursday morning, April 24, receiving a cut list and performing “job prep”, as Patrouille called it.
Throughout the week, they would have the opportunity to work with specialized tools, like rebar cutters and benders and twist tie guns, that students might not otherwise get to use in their shop facilities.

By Monday, every group would be prepared to begin assembling their walls.
On Friday, May 2, once their projects were complete, Horicon’s manufacturing class traveled to Neuman Pools’ facility and had the chance to try applying gunite, or shotcrete, where concrete is sprayed out through a hose and onto a pool’s surface.
