Horicon Bank wins Marsh Area Business of the Year

Posted

The Marsh Area Chamber of Commerce has announced their 2026 Chamber Award Winners. Horicon Bank won Marsh Area Business of the Year after being nominated by multiple people.

This year is a special year for the bank to win this award as it is their 130th year in business. Fred C Schwertfeger, Horicon Bank president, said that it was amazing to win the award on the bank’s anniversary.

The nomination process for the award was that the business should support their community, invest in employees, provide exceptional service and help to strengthen the local economy. Once the chamber received all nominations, they voted, which ended in Horicon Bank as the winner.

Being involved in the community is something that Horicon Bank takes pride in. They have employees that volunteer on various boards, all employees get 40 hours of paid volunteer time and they have been mentioned by the Milwaukee Business Journal for their charitable giving in the community.

Additionally, they are active in events such as Audubon Days Parade, Mayville Christmas Parade, Iron Ridge Fireman’s Picnic Parade and the National Night Outs in both Horicon and Mayville.

In addition, they support several local nonprofits and schools, including the Horicon Historical Society, Horicon Phoenix, Marsh Area Chamber, Horicon Lion’s Club and Friends of Horicon Marsh.

“It’s a symbiotic relationship. We are so grateful for all our customers, they made us the number one bank in Dodge County. And we also want to give back and see that it’s appreciated,” Schwertfeger said.

The bank was started in 1896 by Daniel Van Brunt, who invented the grain drill and started a factory in Horicon.

Horicon Bank is very grateful to have received this award and is looking forward to going to the Annual Dinner held on Tuesday, Nov. 10 which is designed to celebrate all the winners this year.
