Horicon hosted one of its largest meets of the season Thursday, Sept. 24, welcoming more than 17 schools to River Bend Park for the Horicon River Run.
The large varsity fields featured 110 runners in the girls race and 122 in the boys race, with the Horicon boys finishing eighth and the girls placing 15th.
Sawyer Herrmann led the Marshmen with a 17th-place finish in the boys 5K, crossing the line in 18:16.2. Joey Hintz was Horicon’s next finisher, placing 47th in 19:36.9.
Eli DeHoyos finished 60th with a time of 20:00.1, while Felix Rodriguez was close behind in 66th at 20:08.5. Horicon finished eighth in the team standings with 267 points.
On the girls side, Molly Slade paced Horicon with a 45th-place finish in 22:46.1. Abby Baker followed in 55th with a time of 23:30.3.
Kaitlyn Wiard placed 64th in 24:30.1, while Keleigh Holl finished 89th in 25:57.9. The Horicon girls finished 15th as a team with 332 points.
The home meet gave the Marshmen a chance to compete against a large field that included several area programs, including Mayville, Lomira, Dodgeland, Waupun, St. Mary’s Springs, Winnebago Lutheran Academy and Central Wisconsin Christian.
Horicon returns to action Friday, Oct. 2, at the Tuscumbia Night Meet at Tuscumbia Golf Course in Green Lake. Racing begins at 7:20 p.m.
