The City of Mayville hosted the Comprehensive Plan Public Meeting/Open House on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, at the Ted & Grace Bachhuber Memorial Library, in order to present the draft of its Comprehensive Plan, a roadmap to guide growth, development, and community priorities over the next 10 to 20 years. Despite the plan’s importance, attendance was modest, with about 17 residents joining Mayor Rob Boelk, committee members, and several alderpersons for the evening session.
The meeting was led by Kristen Fish-Peterson and Dayna Sarver from Redevelopment Resources, the consulting firm assisting the city in preparing the plan. The consultants shared highlights from a public survey completed by more than 250 residents, as well as interviews with business owners, department heads, and community stakeholders.
Survey data reflected what residents most appreciate about Mayville: its small-town atmosphere, friendly community, natural beauty, and safe, family-oriented environment. People praised the city’s walkable downtown, the TAG Center, the new library, and local parks as key community strengths.
However, the survey also revealed concerns about vacant and neglected properties, housing affordability, and the need for investment in parks and infrastructure. Residents called for more housing options for seniors and young families, expanded downtown businesses, and better maintenance of public spaces.
Following the presentation, a Q&A session allowed attendees to share comments. Alderperson Kim Olson voiced concern over the volume of semi-truck traffic traveling residential streets to and from the area landfill. A 90-year-old resident, who preferred not to be named, spoke with heartfelt emotion about his lifelong love for Mayville and his disappointment over the limited turnout, urging more residents to get involved in planning the city’s future.
The public hearing for the Comprehensive Plan meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. on October 22, 2025, when an updated draft will be shared for additional public review. City officials continue to encourage residents to take part in shaping Mayville’s direction through 2045.
The purpose of the upcoming public hearing is to gather public input on the proposed update to the City of Mayville’s Comprehensive Plan. The update brings the plan in line with current information and fulfills the requirements of Wisconsin Statute 66.1001.
Residents may review copies of the draft Comprehensive Plan by contacting the City Clerk at Mayville City Hall via email at agonstead@mayvillecity.com or by calling 920-387-7900.
During the public hearing, community members are invited to share feedback in person or submit written comments to the City Clerk no later than Monday, October 20, 2025, at 5 p.m. All written comments will become part of the official record.
The hearing will remain open until all attendees have had the opportunity to speak. Once the hearing is closed, the City of Mayville Plan Commission will convene to review and take action on the proposed plan update.
