In their final non-conference game before postseason play, Mayville fell 12–1 on the road to a hot-hitting Wauwatosa East squad on Thursday, May 29.
Despite clean defense and some early baserunners, the Cardinals struggled to contain the Red Raiders' offense, which tallied 14 hits and capitalized on key scoring opportunities.
Tanner Schneider, Blake Peterson, and Brady Zitlow each recorded hits for Mayville, while Bobby Held drew two walks and stole a pair of bases—breaking the Mayville single-season stolen base record in the process. Zitlow also laid down a sacrifice bunt to move runners.
Austin Thoreson and Weston Teeters shared pitching duties for the Cardinals. Thoreson allowed five runs in three innings, while Teeters gave up seven in relief.
The loss brings Mayville’s regular season to a close with a strong 19–5 record. The No. 2 Cardinals now turn their attention to the postseason after a bye in the first round. Opening play starts at home Tuesday, June 3, against No. 10 Living Word Lutheran.
Cardinals Close Out Regular Season with 5–1 Win Over Omro
Mayville wrapped up regular season play with a 5–1 victory over Omro on Tuesday, May 27, behind a complete-game performance from Mason Gerth and a five-run surge in the sixth inning.
Gerth went the distance on the mound, allowing just one earned run on six hits while striking out three. The senior also swiped a base and scored a run to help his cause.
Brady Zitlow sparked the offense with two stolen bases, a hit, and a run scored, while Blake Peterson reached base three times and stole three. Tanner Schneider tripled and drove in a run, and Bobby Held added an RBI single in the sixth.
Mayville capitalized on Omro’s three defensive errors and aggressive baserunning to break open a tight game and head into postseason play with momentum.
Cardinals Cap Regular Season With One-Run Victory Over Laconia
Mayville capped off its regular season with a 2-1 victory over Laconia Friday night at home, powered by clutch base running and a strong performance on the mound from Austin Thoreson.
Thoreson threw a complete game, scattering three hits and striking out four while allowing just one earned run. The Cardinals scored both runs in the bottom of the sixth, erasing a 1-0 deficit.
Joe Promersberger drove in the game-tying run and later came around to score the go-ahead tally. Kevin Keller had one of Mayville’s two hits on the night, and both Bobby Held and Brady Zitlow added key stolen bases after being hit by pitches.
