Cardinals Sweep Orioles on Senior Night

Posted

It was a night to remember in Mayville as the Cardinals volleyball team celebrated both Senior Night and Homecoming Week with a convincing 3-0 win over North Fond du Lac on Thursday, Oct. 2.

The evening belonged to senior Kaia Harris, the Cardinals’ lone senior, who was honored before the match. Harris played steady in the back row, recording a dig and three serve receptions, while leading her young teammates on the floor.

Adding to the celebration, the stands were packed with Mayville families and students, the pep band filled the gym with music, and Cardinal mascot Big Red made his season debut. The energy carried onto the court as Mayville rolled to set wins of 25-9, 25-16, and 25-14.

The Cardinals spread the offense around with several strong performances. Lilian Mansueto led the team with nine kills, while freshman Brielle Ehlers added eight. Leah Vossekuil chipped in five kills and three blocks, with Amelia Boeder and Allison Schellpfeffer each adding three kills apiece.

Setting duties were shared by Neva Mittelstadt (15 assists) and Reagan Hardesty (13 assists), who kept the attack balanced. On defense, Mansueto led the way with 13 digs, followed by Marissa Vander Schaaf with 11 and several others chipping in.

The win moved Mayville to (16-9, 5-0), ranking second in the Flyway, and gave the home crowd plenty to cheer about on a night that honored tradition, spirit, and teamwork.

The Cardinals finished the week with tournament play on Saturday, Oct. 11 and return to action on the road on Thursday, Oct. 9, at Laconia at 7 p.m.
