Mayville High School volleyball delivered a dominant performance Thursday night, Sept. 11, sweeping conference rival Campbellsport High School in straight sets (25-15, 25-23, 25-23) in front of a raucous home crowd on Youth Night.

The student section was packed and loud from the opening serve, while the pep band kept the energy high. Between sets, the next generation of Cardinal athletes, Mayville’s youth volleyball players, were recognized, drawing cheers from the crowd and varsity team members.

On the court, the Cardinals were equally impressive. Leah Vossekuil powered the offense with nine kills and six blocks, while Brielle Ehlers (seven kills, three blocks) and Lilian Mansueto (five kills, 27 digs) made big impacts on both sides of the ball. Allison Schelpfeffer added four kills, and Marissa Vander Schaaf anchored the back row with 13 digs and a team-high 19 serve receptions.

Freshman setter Neva Mittlestadt dished out 18 assists, with Reagan Hardesty adding 12 more as the Cardinals controlled the tempo throughout the match. Mayville served at a steady clip, with Mansueto and Schelpfeffer both perfect from the line.

With the win, Mayville moved to 26-25 on the season and gave their home fans and future Cardinals plenty to cheer about.

Head coach Alan Capps stated, “It was an all-around team effort, dominant blocking, gritty defense, and explosive offense.”

The Lady Cards take it on the road, heading to WLA on Thursday, Sept. 18, with first serve at 7 p.m.
