The Mayville Cardinals softball opened the 2026 season with a challenging first couple of weeks, dropping three games against tough competition. With a roster featuring nine freshmen and sophomores, the Cardinals are gaining valuable early-season experience against strong opponents.
Mayville began the month on April 1 with a 15-0 road loss at Ripon High School, followed by a home setback against Flyway conference rival Lomira High School on April 7. The week continued on Thursday with a 15-0 loss at St. Mary's Springs.
Against Springs, the Ledgers jumped out early, plating five runs in the first inning and pulling away with a nine-run fourth to end the game early. Mayville was limited to just two hits, coming from Rozalynn. Selsing and Lilian Mansueto. Janel Youngbeck took the loss in the circle, working 3.1 innings with three strikeouts, while Megan Promersberger and Mansueto provided relief.

In the second game, Mayville fell 14-0 to Jubany softball. Megan Promersberger pitched three innings with one strikeout, while Mansueto added an inning in relief with one strikeout. The game was shortened to four innings.
The Cardinals continue conference play next week, aiming to gain momentum and settle into a rhythm early in the season, starting the week on Tuesday, April 14, at Campbellsport.
