Cardinals Dominate Springs, 35-0, to Stay Undefeated

Posted

The Mayville Cardinals went on the road Friday night and left little doubt, rolling past perennial power Saint Mary’s Springs 35-0 in conference play.

It was all Cardinals from the start. Joe Promersberger got things going with a 17-yard touchdown run late in the first quarter. In the second, Landen Baker broke free for a 20-yard score, then quarterback Emerson Mittelstadt set up a highlight-reel play, pitching to Promersberger on a lateral that turned into a 20-yard touchdown run. Mayville took a 21-0 lead into halftime.

Baker carried the load in the third quarter, punching in two more touchdowns on runs of one and 18 yards to close out the scoring. He finished the night with 158 yards on 23 carries and three touchdowns. Promersberger added 80 yards and two scores.

The Cardinals’ offensive line paved the way for 324 rushing yards on 53 carries, averaging more than six yards per attempt. On the other side of the ball, Mayville’s defense was nearly flawless. Springs was held to just 70 total yards, 42 on the ground and 28 through the air, and managed only three first downs all game.

Mayville controlled the clock with nearly 30 minutes of possession and never punted. Defensively, Weston Teeters and Owen Steger each registered sacks, while Devin Wendorff recovered a fumble to stop one of Springs’ few drives.

With the win, Mayville improves to 6-0 overall and 4-0 in conference, keeping its perfect season intact as the Cardinals prepare for another key matchup next week for homecoming.

The Cardinals host Omro (3-3, 1-2) on Friday, Oct. 3, at Ray Dunn Field with kickoff at 7 p.m.
