On a chilly Friday night under the lights, the top-seeded Mayville Cardinals opened the WIAA Division Five playoffs with a statement win, shutting out No. 8 Chilton 41–0 on their home field. From the first whistle, Mayville played true to its brand of football: physical at the line, disciplined on defense, and relentless on the ground.
Every running back who touched the ball found the end zone, showcasing the depth and balance of the Cardinals’ offensive attack.
Landen Baker led the ground game with 99 yards on 16 carries and a touchdown. Quarterback Emerson Mittelstadt ran for 46 yards and a score while also connecting with Brady Zitlow for a 58-yard touchdown strike through the air. Tanner Schneider, Kevin Keller, and Joe Promersberger each added rushing touchdowns, with Promersberger also contributing 14 yards receiving. In total, Mayville rolled up 278 rushing yards and 350 total yards of offense while averaging over six yards per carry.
Defensively, the Cardinals smothered Chilton from start to finish, holding the Tigers to just 66 total yards and four first downs. The defense closed out the night fittingly, as Cooper Raddemann sealed the shutout with an interception as the clock expired.
Senior kicker Owen Mlsna went 5-for-6 on extra points and handled all seven kickoffs for the Cardinals, helping control field position throughout the game.
With the 41–0 win, No. 1 Mayville advances to the regional semifinal, continuing their postseason run on Friday, Oct. 31 at Ray Dunn Field, taking on No. 4 Winnebago Lutheran Academy. Kick off is at 7 p.m.
