Thomas Wayne Berge, 101 of Eldersburg, MD, passed away on Wednesday, July 8, 2026.
Beloved husband of the late Harriet G Berge Alfstead for 52 years. Born on May 12, 1925, in Valders, the son of the late Helen (Potts) Berge and the late Walter F. Berge and his late stepmom Agnes Berge. Survived by his stepsister, Mary, and preceded in death by brothers, Allen Berge, Robert Berge, and James Berge.
Tom served in the US Navy during World War II from 1943 to 1946 as an Aviation Radioman. After being honorably discharged from the Navy, he attended Luther College. Upon graduation, he taught school and coached basketball at Valders High School. He then taught and coached football at Horicon High School, where the team won the conference championship. Following his teaching career, Tom served as an FBI Special Agent for 20 years with assignments in San Antonio, TX, Baltimore, MD, and the Washington DC Field Office in Hyattsville, MD. After retiring from the FBI in 1982, Tom continued serving the government as a contract security background investigator.
He is survived by his son, Steve Berge, Steve’s wife, Kathi, of Ocean City, MD, and by Tom’s daughter, Susan Watkins, and her husband, Tim, of Finksburg, MD. Tom was grandfather to Kelley Berge, Patrick Berge, Alexandra Vojtech and her husband, Ritchie, Megan Chrencik and her husband, Eric, Timothy Watkins Jr. and his wife, Rachel, and Brian Watkins. Great-grandfather to Riley Berge, Madison Berge, Penelope Vojtech, Easton Vojtech, Hattie Chrencik, Jack Chrencik, Theodore Chrencik, and Eli Watkins.
A memorial service will be held in Valders, at a later date. Interment will be in West Valders Cemetery.
