A life well lived is a gift to those left behind. David Charles Zimmerman, 67, of Newnan, GA, formerly of Hartford and Mayville, left this world far too soon on September 14, 2026, leaving a lasting impact on those who knew and loved him.
The second youngest of twelve children, Dave was born on June 23, 1959, in Hartford, to Paul and Mildred (Aicher) Zimmerman. He graduated from Hartford Union High School in 1978 and pursued careers in maintenance and HVAC, followed by thirty years of service to the City of Hartford in the water, sewer, and DPW departments.
Dave carried a golden heart everywhere he went, always showing up to help others. He had a passion for sports whether he was coaching or spending his time cheering on his kids on the ball diamond, mat side across the country for a wrestling tournament, or chasing through a cross country meet to catch every moment. He continued to show up and cheer on friends and family from the bleachers. His own personal athletic achievements included one of the longest touchdown returns in school history, being on the receiving end of a state football game touchdown, and maintaining his record breaking track and field statistics long after graduation. He continued his athleticism into retirement through pickleball. He never met a pickleball game he didn't want to win, a dink he couldn't perfect, or a competitor he couldn't turn into a lifelong friend.
Affectionately known as Grandpa Dave, he was endlessly proud of his eight grandchildren; always the fun Grandpa actively participating in their endeavors, cracking toes, creating laughter, and never turning down an adventure.
Dave is survived by his children, Courtney (Nathan) Steger, Cody (Stephanie) Zimmerman, Kelsey (Justin) Aguirre; grandchildren, Gavin Staedler, Rylan Steger, Colson, Callen, and Cade Zimmerman, Vianna, Gabriel, and Ellis Aguirre; siblings, Diane (Will) Fassbender, Mary (Jerry) Crass, Ken Zimmerman, Dan (Bonnie) Zimmerman, Jane (Lon) Carriveau, Art Zimmerman, Kathy Nelson (Partner Dale), Carol (Gordy) Pattee, Annette (Brian) Porter, Deb (Brian) Noonan; and a multitude of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Mildred Zimmerman; brother, Donald Zimmerman; and brother-in-law, Gary Nelson.
Celebrations for a life well lived will take place in both Georgia and Wisconsin as Dave made and maintained friendships everywhere he went. In Georgia, a celebration of life will be held outdoors on Friday, Oct. 2, at The Aguirre Residence in Newnan from 4 to 8 p.m. Another celebration of life will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 4, in Wisconsin at the Hartford Town Hall Pavilion, 3360 Co. Rd. K in Hartford from 4-8 p.m. Sports jersey/favorite team attire welcome.
