New Faces in the Horicon School District

Corrie Davis - Special Education Teacher, Horicon Middle School
Hometown: Iron Ridge, but I recently moved back to Wisconsin after 13 years on Kodiak Island in Alaska
Family: My husband, Will, and 5 children (Luke, Kayden, Nora, Nikolai, Leeya)
Hobbies: Gardening, canning, learning about my (adopted) children’s Alaskan culture
Education: Bachelor’s in Cross Categorial Special Education emphasis in Emotional Behavioral Disorders UW-Madison; Autism Certification - Penn State; Master’s in Applied Behavior Analysis - Ball State

Past Experience: 6 years as a High School Special Education Teacher in Columbus, Wis; 3 years as an Elementary Autism Specialist in Kodiak, Alaska; 5 years as a Special Education High School Transitions Teacher in Kodiak, Alaska
What made you want to be a teacher? My mom was a teacher, and I love working with kids that need that extra little bit of love.
What are you looking forward to? I graduated from Horicon High School so teaching here is like coming home.

Maggie Grewal - Choir Teacher, Horicon Middle and High Schools
Hometown: Green Lake, Wis.

Family: Two younger sisters, and I have a partner, his name is Ari.
Hobbies: Reading, playing video games, listening to music, cooking, and hanging with family and friends
Education: UW-Oshkosh
Past Experience: I taught for two years at Almond-Bancroft School District and just finished two years at Berlin Middle School.
What made you want to be a teacher? My constant desire to learn and develop connections with students.
What are you looking forward to? Creating lasting relationships, making amazing music, and seeing all the growth my students make this year.

Elissa Retkowski - Director of Pupil Services
Hometown: Oostburg. I have lived in Brown Deer for the past 23 years.
Family: Husband - Paul; 3 daughters: 21, 18, 14
Hobbies: Crocheting, reading, hiking, Pilates

Education: Bachelor’s Degree - UW-Stevens Point; Master’s Degree - Marquette
Past Experience: speech-language pathologist for 20 years in a variety of settings: clinical, hospital and schools
What made you want to want to work in education? I have always wanted to be in a helping profession and transitioned into academic leadership from work as a speech-language pathologist to have an impact on system change for students, teachers and families and promote positive outcomes for all students.
What are you looking forward to? Horicon has been such a welcoming community, and I look forward to making connections, developing relationships and advocating for our students and families.

Liz Killian - Speech Language Pathologist

Hometown: Independence, Wis.
Family: I have a big family! I have two brothers, two sisters, and lots of nieces and nephews!
Hobbies: I love collecting art, finding cool restaurants and going to dindin, reading, lake time, cooking, and spending time with friends and family!
Education: I completed undergrad at UWEC and grad school at UWM.
Past Experience: I’ve been an SLP for three years and previously taught elementary school reading, writing, and math.
What made you want to want to work in education? I love the innate joy of working with kids. And helping them become confident communicators is so fulfilling!
What are you looking forward to? All things speech and language!
