On February 4, Lomira boys basketball beat Campbellsport 61-42 in their conference matchup at home.
Campbellsport (5-14, 3-7) led 6-5 over Lomira (14-3, 8-2) when Charlie Cole and Jackson Goebel made back-to-back three-pointers to give the Lions a 13-6 lead.
The Cougars jumped out to a 19-17 lead in the first half before the Lions scored 12 straight consecutive points, featuring three-pointers from Dalton Zinghseim and Keegan Kell both resulting from good ball movement from their offense, to put Lomira ahead 29-19.
The Lions held a 29-22 halftime lead over the Cougars.
Kell drained a three-point shot and Goebel converted a tough finish at the hoop for the Lions to give them a 34-24 lead early in the second half.
Campbellsport closed the gap to 34-28 before Goebel scored three consecutive points to extend the Lomira lead to 37-28.
Lomira was ahead 37-30 when the Lions’ offense erupted with four consecutive three-pointers from Hunter Duley, Zingsheim, Cole, and Goebel, which was made possible by the Lions passing of the ball to their open teammates, to push the Lions’ lead out to 51-30.
The Lions closed out the remaining part of the game to get their seventh conference win of the season with a 61-42 victory.
Jackson Goebel scored 17 points with Keegan Kell chipping in 11 points in the convincing conference victory.
Vs Random LakeOn February 6, Lomira boys basketball beat Random Lake 90-38 at home in their non-conference matchup.
Lomira (14-3) jumped out to a 13-4 lead over Random Lake (0-19) after two three-pointers from Keegan Kell led the way for the Lions.
The Lions proceeded to go on a 21-0 scoring run, featuring two three-pointers from Hunter Duley and four steals converted into fastbreak layups, with three of the steals coming from Jackson Goebel, to push the Lomira lead to 34-4.
Goebel scored five consecutive points to help extend the Lions’ lead to 43-16 over the Rams before Kell splashed two three-pointers before the end of the first half to give Lomira a 53-18 halftime lead over Random Lake.
Lomira continued their excellent ball movement on the offensive end, getting three-pointer shots from Charlie Cole and Kell, to further their second-half lead to 61-23 over the visiting Rams.
The Lions' hot shooting from distance continued with Cooper King and Kell both hitting two three-pointers apiece to push their lead out to 78-28, which gave Lomira 18 made three-pointers as a team in the non-conference contest.
Lomira got a strong layup finish and free throw from Goebel to make the score 81-28 to help the Lions close out their 90-38 home victory.
Keegan Kell made seven three-pointers to lead the Lions in scoring with 21 points, and Jackson Goebel was second in scoring on the night for Lomira.
Vs NFDL
On February 7, Lomira boys basketball beat NFDL 63-47 on Senior and Parents Night for the Lions.
Lomira (14-3, 8-2) sprinted out to an 8-0 lead over NFDL (0-16, 0-10) after back-to-back three-pointers from seniors Sam Schraufnagel and Dalton Zinghseim.
The Lions pushed out their lead further to 22-9 when Jackson Goebel and Hunter Duley splashed down three-pointers from distance for Lomira.
NFDL proceeded to score nine straight points to tighten the game at 22-19 before the Lions got a strong finish on a layup and a free throw from Goebel to help Lomira lead 29-22 at the halftime break.
Lomira was ahead 38-28 early in the second half when Keegan Kell continued his hot shooting streak from distance with three straight three-pointers for the Lions to extend their lead to 49-28 with under ten minutes to play.
The Orioles scored six consecutive points before a Blake Steger basket and Kell hitting his fourth three-pointer of the game to extend the Lions’ lead to 54-34.
The Lions got two strong baskets from Schraufnagel and made enough free throws to secure their 63-47 victory for their eighth conference win of the season.
“This week has been busy with three games which resulted in three wins and with lessons being learned, which should serve us well by experiencing some different styles of play that gave us new experiencces to help us going forward,” said Head Coach Dan Domask. “We had to reinvent ourselves with it being an ongoing effort trying to maximize the skills we have with the guys being good and willing learners.”
“We are convinced as a team that as long as we are committed to the process we use that good things will come our way,” said Domask.
Jackson Goebel with 16 points and Keegan Kell with 14 points paced Lomira in scoring in the conference matchup.
Lomira boys basketball hosted Marshall on February 11 and then travels to Laconia on February 13 and to Berlin on February 14 with scheduled game times at 7 p.m.
