Horicon Boys Basketball Defeats Hustisford by One Point

Posted

On Tuesday, Feb. 18, the Horicon Marshmen beat their rival, Hustisford, by one point, 67-66.
Horicon and Hustisford were tied at 54 before going into overtime.
Head Coach Jay Wald said Jay Graven had the game-winning shot in overtime. He scored a total of 15 points in the nail-biter of a game.
Wald added, “The kids showed a lot of resilience down the stretch. We dug a few holes late in the game but never stopped believing we would win. We had four kids make clutch shots in overtime.”
He also wanted to congratulate Caleb Peplinski on scoring 1,000 points. “He’s a great player and this milestone was well deserved,” Wald said.

Along with Graven, leading scorers for Horicon included Quinten Brown with 24 points and Barrett Meyer with 15 points, as well.
On Friday, Feb. 21 Horicon traveled to Wayland where they won 84-63.
“We came out with a lot of energy and played a really sound first half on both halves of the court,” said Wald. “The kids did a really good job of executing all of our pregame points of emphasis.”
Wald was impressed to see Brown, Meyer, Graven, and Quin Jackl score double-digits.
“When we play as a team, it’s really fun to watch. We have a great group of kids that are so much fun to coach,” added Wald.
On Monday night, Horicon played a non-conference game against Lomira.
Lomira was up 20-6 over Horicon with ten minutes left in the first half.
Meyer made two three-pointers late in the first half to make the score at halftime 34-20 in favor of the Lions.
Meyer hit another three-pointer early in the second half, making the score 41-26.
Lomira continued to control the second half of the game in Horicon and secured the 68-40 victory over the Marshmen.
This week, Horicon has one game left in the regular season. They will play Dodgeland (9-4) at home on Thursday, Feb. 27, at 7:15 p.m.
The boys received the six-seed in the WIAA Boys Basketball Tournament and will take on Poynette, the 11-seed, at home in the first-round regional on Tuesday, March 4, at 7 p.m.
