The Horicon Board of Education held a regular meeting on July 21 at 6 p.m.
The Board set the 2025 budget hearing and annual meeting date for Monday, Sept. 15., with the annual meeting scheduled to start at 7 p.m.
The preliminary budget is expected to be ready by August 18.
Board Matters
• Elissa Retkowski was introduced as the new Director of Pupil Services.
• The Horicon Marshmen Foundation donated $1,000 in school supplies, specifically Expo brand products, to help reduce some back-to-school shopping costs.
• District Administrator Katie Schwartz announced that middle and elementary school students will be offered free breakfast and lunch, while high school students will only be offered free breakfast but not free lunch.
• As of meeting time, 114 invites had been sent for August Jump Start Summer School, with only 20 registrations received.
• The Board adopted the Amplify CKLA Core Knowledge Language Arts Text, which will be utilized by grades 4k-5.
• August 16 is the 4th Annual Marshmen Open Golf Open. There were 15 teams signed up at the time of the meeting. Organizers are still asking for raffle basket donations, hole sponsors, and more teams to participate.
• A few more updates from Schwartz include the beginning of a Girls on the Run program in Horicon, the district calendar being finalized, and the continuation of Marsh Talks and community coffee dates this upcoming school year.
