On Sunday, October 19, at 9:08 p.m., Horicon Police and Horicon Fire were dispatched to 315 E. Lake St., Danny Boy’s Irish Pub, for a report of a working fire. Fire units arrived on scene within four minutes, at 9:12 p.m.
Upon arrival, firefighters encountered heavy smoke conditions throughout the building, with visible fire contained to the first level. Horicon Fire, along with numerous other agencies, were able to quickly extinguish the fire.
There was one resident who lived in the upper apartment at that location. This resident was forced to retreat to the roof as he was not able to exit down the stairs because of the fire. Officer Fichtner of the Horicon Police Department acted quickly and located a ladder and was able to safely escort the man to safety.
Fire crews conducted an aggressive interior attack to contain the blaze and successfully prevented the fire from spreading beyond the first floor. The building sustained significant smoke damage throughout, but the prompt response of all involved prevented further loss.
No firefighter or civilian injuries were reported.
The Dodge County Sheriff’s Office led the investigation, and it was later determined that this fire was the result of arson. Currently, there is one person, a 42-year-old male from Hustisford, in custody who is facing multiple felony charges related to this incident.
The Horicon Police and Fire Departments would like to thank all the agencies that assisted with this operation: Horicon EMS personnel, Burnett Fire, Juneau Fire, Hustisford Fire, Iron Ridge Fire, Juneau EMS, Kekoskee Fire, Mayville Fire and Dodge County Sheriff’s for their quick and professional response.
