On Tuesday, May 6, 2025, Bo’s Heavenly Clubhouse sponsored a Bereaved Mothers’ Spa Day event at Beauty Boutique in Mayville. They served 15 bereaved moms throughout Wisconsin, including right here in Dodge County.
These mothers are grieving the loss of their child or children and need both support and encouragement.
It was a day filled with gift bags, free raffle baskets for each mom to win, infused water, a slew of snacks and a charcuterie board, as well as the services that were provided by the beauticians.
Throughout the day, the moms were asked some questions, and their responses are shared below.
Where are you from, and how long did it take you to get here?
Kiley Brunk: Hancock, Wis.; 2 hours
Jessie Schowalter: right here in Mayville; 5 minutes
Sabel Klemm: Baraboo, Wis.; 1.5 hours
Morgan Manning: Columbus, Wis.; 35 minutes
Roseanna Antol: Whitewater, Wis.; 1.15 hours
What does today mean to you? Jessie: having a safe place to say Skylar’s name
Roseanna: honoring my child
Morgan: being somewhere where people understand your circumstances, where it’s hard in the real world that people don’t understand your circumstances
What services did you have done today?
Kiley Brunk: manicure and pedicure
Jessie: mani/pedi with Michele
Sabel: haircut and color with Nicole
Morgan: one-hour massage
Roseanna: mani and pedi with Carissa
If this spa day wouldn’t be offered, would you have taken time to pamper yourself? Kiley: Probably not!
Jessie: No, I don’t think so.
Sabel: No. With two young kiddos that are young, I’m just too busy.
Roseanna: I maybe would have, but not in a salon. Financially, I cannot afford it.
The entire event was sponsored by the Beaver Dam Area Community Foundation (BDACF), which paid for the majority of the bereaved mother’s services at Beauty Boutique.
“This partnership has been invaluable to us in so many different ways, and this is just one of so many others!” Amanda Hartwig continued, “Community foundations help us continue the work that we are doing because they believe in the community! We are so grateful to be able to lean on BDACF.”
Some additional businesses that worked with us that Bo’s would like to mention are: Don Ramon’s restaurant in Mayville, the cheese wedge uncorked in Mayville, Sweet Chatchaya of Horicon, Essential Bath Company of Mayville, The Open Door Coffeehouse, the board volunteers from Bo’s Heavenly Clubhouse and of course, all of the ladies that own small businesses within Beauty Boutique!
Hartwig added, “I want to take a moment to mention that if you’re reading this, and you are grieving the death of a child, whether it’s been a week or 10 years, we want you to know that you’re not alone. There have been bereaved mothers that have attended our event that haven’t grieved the death of their child or children in decades. Nobody is excluded. But being a Grief Support Specialist, I must tell you, working through this grief is the healthiest thing you can do for you, for them. And it is possible to heal and not be in agony every single day. One step at a time.”
Bo’s Heavenly Clubhouse wants to acknowledge the entire community effort that helped make this possible! It’s truly such a blessing to be able to be the hands and feet of change!
