On Thursday, Feb. 19, the Horicon girls’ basketball team (12-12) closed out their regular season on the road, falling to Valley Christian (15-7) by a final score of 67-49.
The Vikings established an early lead that proved difficult for Horicon to overcome.
Horicon’s first point came off a free throw from Sarah Hodgson.
Later in the first half, Mady Rinderle provided a spark for the team, driving in for a layup around the 10:28 mark.
Despite a score from Hodgson at the six-minute mark, Horicon was still trailing, 23-18.
Rinderle continued to battle the Valley Christian defense, securing two more points below the basket about a minute later.
The halftime score stood at 34-24 in favor of Valley Christian.
Valley Christian continued its strong performance in the second half. Horicon attempted to rally early, with Aubrey Ehrlich hitting a three-pointer to cut the deficit to 43-29. However, the Vikings maintained control throughout the half.
Azelyn Heller managed to score on a fast break with seven minutes remaining, but it was not enough to shift the momentum.
Ultimately, Horicon was unable to catch up, losing the game 67-49. Hodgson led the team with 20 points.
The team finishes the regular season with a 12-12 record and now looks ahead to the upcoming tournament.
