On September 3, Husticon football lost 46-6 to Markesan on the road in their non-conference matchup.
Markesan (1-2) got on the scoreboard with a 12-yard rushing touchdown and a two-point conversion to take an 8-0 lead over Husticon (0-3) at the 8:30 mark in the first quarter.
Husticon’s offense responded with a 64-yard scoring drive highlighted by a 21-yard pass from Junior Quarterback Anthony Kluck to Junior Adrian Schuelke and a 20-yard pass play from Kluck to Freshman Pierce Franz.
Junior Running Back Ashton Muche's 16-yard run on a third-down set up Kluck’s four-yard rushing touchdown to make the score 8-6 with 2:45 left in the first quarter.
“It was a good drive to respond to Markesan’s scoring drive,” said Head Coach Andrew Selgrad. “Markesan was determined to stop the run, so the passing game was vital to that drive, and we were able to complete some passes that opened the run game a little. It was a good drive.”
Markesan scored three rushing touchdowns in the second quarter to take a 30-6 lead at halftime.
The Hornets added 16 points in the third quarter for a final score of 46-6 in favor of Markesan in Husticon’s third consecutive road game to start the season.
“It’s tough for a young team to open up the season like this with three road games,” said Selgrad. “We played three really good football teams, and it doesn’t get easier because the Eastern Suburban Conference has a ton of really good football teams with excellent coaches.”
Husticon football will host Cambridge on September 11 at 7 p.m.
