On May 20, Lomira softball beat Random Lake 8-3 at home to wrap up their regular season with 21 wins on youth night.
Lomira (21-3) jumped out to a 1-0 lead over Random Lake (15-5) in the first inning when Izzy Westphal hit a triple and was driven in by Lily Christian’s RBI single for the Lions.
The Lions got an RBI single from Brianna Frea to increase their 2-0 lead in the fourth inning before the Rams tied it at two in the top of the fifth inning.
Trista Gassner hit an RBI single in the bottom of the fifth inning to give the lead back to the Lions at 3-2 over the Rams.
Christian and Haliegh Caspary hit singles to start the Lions’ sixth inning to set up Frea’s two-run RBI single to push the Lomira lead to 5-2.
Lomira loaded bases with two outs, resulting in a two-run RBI single from Kennedy Goebel and a RBI single from Westphal to expand the Lions’ lead to 8-2 going into the top of the seventh inning.
The Rams added a final run in the seventh inning to make the final score 8-3 in favor of the Lions.
Lily Christian struck out 15 batters from the pitching circle to get the win for Lomira in the non-conference matchup.
Brianna Frea, Lily Christian, and Izzy Westphal led the way with seven hits and five runs batted in to lead the way for the Lomira offense.
Vs Waupun
On May 19, Lomira softball lost 4-1 to Waupun at home, ending their 12-game winning streak.
Waupun (21-2) took a 2-0 lead over Lomira (21-3) in the third inning between the ranked teams, with the Warriors ranked seventh in Division One and the Lions ranked first in Division Three.
Trista Gassner hit a leadoff double for Lomira in the fourth inning and was driven in by Izzy Westphal to close the gap to 2-1.
The Warriors scored a run in the sixth and seventh innings to push their lead to 4-1 over the Lions.
Lily Christian hit a leadoff single, followed by Brianna Frea’s single to get runners on third and second with one out before Waupun’s Star Pitcher Addison Braun got the final two outs of the game, including a strikeout to end the game with the 4-1 win for the Warriors.
Haliegh Caspary struck out 14 Warriors batters for Lomira in the highly competitive matchup between the Lions and Warriors.
Lomira softball hosted its second round game against Berlin in the WIAA Tournament after print time on May 26. The Lions will host the Regional Final on May 28 with a win in the second round.
