Mayville Track Builds Momentum with Strong NFDL and Waterloo Invite Performances

Posted

At NFDL- Tuesday, May 5, 2026

The Mayville track and field teams continued their late-season push with another strong performance at the North Fondy Quad, with the girls capturing the team title and the boys finishing a close second on Tuesday, May 5, 2026.

The girls scored 121 points to take first, ahead of Winnebago Lutheran Academy (108), while the boys totaled 83 points, just behind WLA’s 85 in a tightly contested meet.

“We had a good meet and scored more points than I expected,” head coach Bob Berry said. “We held some people out of events due to sickness, and with another meet coming up on Thursday, so overall I was really pleased.”

The Cardinals were led by several standout performances across both sides.

For the girls, Lydia Case continued to dominate the hurdles, sweeping both races with wins in the 100m hurdles (18.14) and 300m hurdles (54.81). Sidney Davis paced the distance group, winning the 1600m in 5:59.26 and running the first leg in the first-place 3200m relay team alongside Crystall Mueller, Mette Genz, and Samara Herzog.

Mette Genz added a first-place finish in the 800m (2:46.09), with Bella Wege right behind in second (2:49.69), giving Mayville a strong one-two finish. Aubree Koput contributed key points with a second-place finish in both the 200m (27.92) and 400m (1:03.70).

On the boys' side, Braxton Wiese led the way in the field events, sweeping both horizontal jumps with a first-place finish in the long jump (19’10”) and triple jump (38’11.5”). Reed Schmidt, along with Adam Boehnlein, Owen Bronecki, and Caden Lindgren, helped the 3200m relay team to a first-place finish in 9:30.09.

Owen Bronecki also had a strong individual day, placing second in the 400m (55.78) and third in the 800m (2:19.57). In the hurdles, Mac Livingston and Emerson Mittelstadt added valuable points, finishing second (16.63) and third (17.38) in the 110m hurdles, while Livingston took first in the 300m hurdles (42.89) and Mettelstadt with third at 45.03.

Berry also highlighted the growth of the younger athletes as a key takeaway.

“I was especially pleased with the way our young people competed,” he said. “They stepped up and gave us some really solid efforts.”

At Waterloo- Thursday, May 7, 2026

The Mayville track and field teams continued an impressive stretch of late-season performances this past week, highlighted by a dominant girls title and runner-up boys finish at the Waterloo Pirate Invitational on Thursday evening, following another strong showing earlier in the week at North Fond du Lac.

At Waterloo, the girls captured the team championship with 191.5 points, well ahead of runner-up Waterloo(140), while the boys narrowly missed a team title, finishing second with 159 points.

“We put together one of our best overall team meets ever,” head coach Bob Berry said. “The girls scored more points than we have in a long time, and both teams had a tremendous amount of season-best performances.”

Berry noted the Cardinals recorded 14 girls' season-best efforts and 13 boys' season-best efforts during the meet.

Leading the way for the Cardinals were several standout athletes who continue to set the tone heading toward conference competition.

Braxton Wiese once again delivered a huge day for the boys' team, winning the 100-meter dash in 11.69 and the long jump with a leap of 20’5.5”. He also placed second in the triple jump and ran on the third-place 400m relay team. Wiese has consistently been one of Mayville’s top point scorers throughout the season.

Mac Livingston had one of his strongest meets of the year, sweeping the hurdles with victories in the 110m hurdles (16.56) and 300m hurdles (42.86). He also won the pole vault at 11’6” and placed second in the high jump, giving the Cardinals major points across multiple events.

Aubree Koput continued to dominate the sprint events for the girls, winning both the 200 (27.6) and 400 (64.8). She also anchored the first-place 1600 relay team with Lydia Case, Samara Herzog, and Sidney Davis. Laila Dobberphul dominated in the 100m, finishing first with a time of 13.36.

Sidney Davis paced the distance squad with a win in the 1600m (5:52.39) and helped lead both the winning 1600m and 3200m relay teams. The girls' distance group remained one of the team’s biggest strengths, with Samara Herzog winning the 800m (2:41.75) and Meta Genz taking first in the 3200m (13:27.35).

Lydia Case added another outstanding all-around performance, winning the 100m hurdles in 18.02 and taking first in the pole vault. She also placed third in the 300m hurdles and contributed to the winning 1600m relay.

Berry said one of the most encouraging parts of the recent meets has been the continued growth of the younger athletes.

“As in the last couple meets, our younger athletes are following the example of our seniors and competing very well,” Berry said. “That’s what you want to see this time of year as we head into conference.”

The Cardinals also received strong efforts from Emerson Mittelstadt, who won the high jump and placed in both hurdle races, along with Owen Bronecki, who finished second in the 400m and third in the 800m.

Mayville will now turn its attention to hosting the Flyway Conference Championship meet on Friday, May 15, with field events beginning at 4 p.m. and running events at 4:30 p.m.
