The local Legion U19 baseball teams wrapped up a busy week of summer competition, highlighted by a Dodge County rivalry game played under challenging conditions Friday night.
Just before first pitch on June 19, a heavy rainstorm moved through the area, but the field remained playable and the game proceeded as scheduled. Once play began, Mayville Post 69 took advantage of the damp conditions and strong pitching to earn a 2-0 victory over Horicon Post 157.
The low-scoring contest featured solid defensive play from both teams, with Mayville capitalizing on limited scoring opportunities to secure the shutout win.
Earlier in the week, Horicon dropped a narrow 7-6 decision at Hartland on June 16. Post 157 battled throughout the contest but came up just short in the one-run loss.
Also on June 16, Jackson defeated Mayville 10-5 in a game that had originally been scheduled for June 11 before being postponed by rain. Jackson built an early advantage and held off several Mayville comeback attempts.
Both teams remain busy this week. Horicon travels to Watertown on Monday, June 22, before hosting Jackson on Tuesday, June 23. Post 157 will then welcome Beaver Dam on Friday, June 26, with first pitch scheduled for 7 p.m.
Mayville travels to Watertown on Tuesday, June 23, before returning home to host Germantown on Thursday, June 25. First pitch is set for 7 p.m.
The local rivals will meet again on Monday, June 29, when Horicon travels to Mayville for a 7 p.m. first pitch.
