The Mayville Cardinals made it a dominant night on both sides of the ball, pounding out 14 hits and riding a one-hit shutout from Allie Schwirtz to a 12–0 win over North Fond du Lac (2-2, 2-2) on Thursday, April 17, on the road.
Schwirtz was electric in the circle, striking out 13 without issuing a walk in a complete-game performance. The Orioles managed just a single hit against the senior pitcher, who also contributed offensively with a 2-for-5 day and two RBIs.
Right fielder Janel Youngbeck lit up the stat sheet, going 3-for-5 with a triple and four RBIs, scoring four times to lead Mayville’s attack. Lilian Mansueto launched a home run and drove in three, while Kate Aumann added a 2-for-4 effort with two RBIs of her own.
Addie Anderson collected three hits and scored a run, and Izzy McFadden had a double, a triple, and five total bases in a strong performance out of the leadoff spot.
Mayville broke the game open with a seven-run third inning and added insurance in the fourth, sixth, and seventh to pull away.
The Cardinals also played clean defense, committing no errors, while North Fond du Lac struggled in the field with three miscues.
Mayville left six runners on base but capitalized consistently, improving to 2–0 on the week with another complete team performance, bringing the team to (8-1, 4-0).
Mayville Claims 3–1 Home Win Over WLA
The Cardinals used a strong pitching performance from Allie Schwirtz and timely hits to notch a 3–1 win over conference rival Winnebago Lutheran Academy (WLA) (1-6, 0-4) on their home field Tuesday afternoon.
Schwirtz delivered a complete game, allowing just one earned run on five hits while striking out eight and walking two. She also helped her own cause at the plate, going 1-for-2 with a walk and a double.
After falling behind 1–0 early, Mayville answered with single runs in the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings. Lilian Mansueto sparked the offense with a 2-for-3 performance, including an RBI double. Madison Justman added an RBI double of her own, and catcher Addie Anderson drove in a run.
Izzy McFadden reached base twice and scored a run, while Morgan Manning contributed with a sacrifice to move a runner into scoring position.
Mayville matched WLA’s five hits but capitalized more efficiently, stranding only three runners while playing aggressive, heads-up softball. The Cardinals also overcame a pair of defensive errors with solid pitching and situational hitting to seal the win.
The team looks ahead to a big conference match-up week, playing Lomira (6-2, 3-1) on Tuesday, April 22, and St. Mary’s Springs (8-2, 4-0) on Thursday at home with first pitch at 5 p.m. The Lady Cards will take it on the road to Laconia (8-4, 3-1) Monday, April 28.
