Mayville Mayor’s Report

May 2025

Posted

This month, I would like to inform the public that Mayville will be updating their 30-year comprehensive plan in compliance with Wisconsin state laws. This month, we will be conducting a survey for the community on what is important and what you would like to see done in Mayville over the next 20-30 years. This is your chance to help guide Mayville’s future by taking this 15-minute survey. The survey will be on the city’s website in the next few weeks. More info to come.
You may have noticed the City Council meetings have not been streamed live on YouTube in the past few months since we updated our internet service. Our IT department has been working on the issue, but cannot seem to figure out the root cause. The meetings are recorded, and we post them on the city’s website a few days after the meeting occurs. Until we can figure out the issue, I will be streaming the City Council meetings live on my Facebook page, Rob Boelk Dodge, the second Monday of the month at 7 p.m.
Last month, we elected members of our City Council and made new appointments. Ward Three will now be represented by newly elected Alderwoman Molly Henkel who will be serving the role of Chairperson of the Personnel Committee. As we enter a new session, I am positive that all our elected officials will serve our community well so thank you all.
This summer, the Wisconsin Department of Transportation has scheduled Hwy 28 to be reconstructed from Hwy V to Theresa. This will include new asphalt and construction improvements. Work will start in the next week, so please avoid using this route for travel.
Last month, I reported that the 2024 & 2025 Capital Improvement Plan funding/bonding was rejected because of higher interest rates and lack of bids. After collaborating with our financial experts, Ehlers, we have concluded that borrowing funds from a private financial institution at a lower rate would be the best option. Myself, the City Administrator and the Treasurer have all been in discussions and we feel even though we are about $100k over our anticipated funding rate, we are gaining on a five-year refinance option compared to nine years, and with the interest rates in flux from the federal government, this is the best possible option at this time.
As always, I hope to see you around town, and be sure to say hi.
