The Beaver Dam Golden Beavers girls’ hockey co-op erupted offensively in an 11–1 victory over Viroqua, controlling the pace from the opening faceoff and finishing with a commanding 42–10 edge in shots on Saturday, Feb. 6.
Mayville junior Lilian Mansueto continued her strong season with two goals, contributing to a balanced scoring attack that saw five different Golden Beavers find the net. Macy Damon and Brenna Rhodes each recorded hat tricks, while Emersen Damon added two goals and Addie Smedema scored once.
Beaver Dam’s defensive unit limited Viroqua to just 10 shots on goal. Horicon sophomore Lena Reuckert was part of the blue line that consistently broke up entries and moved the puck quickly out of the zone.
In net, Mayville sophomore Arianna Wallace turned aside all but one shot, anchoring a steady performance as the Golden Beavers pulled away early and never looked back.
Viroqua’s lone goal came from Olson, but Beaver Dam answered with consistent pressure in all three periods to close out the lopsided conference win.
With the win, the Golden Beavers (15-6-1) earned the No. 1 seed in the WIAA Division 1 tournament and will receive a first-round bye. Beaver Dam will next face the winner of Stoughton and Middleton in a regional matchup scheduled for Feb. 24.
Vs. Metro Lynx
The Beaver Dam Golden Beavers girls’ hockey co-op earned a 2–1 road win over the Metro Lynx on Friday, Feb. 6, using timely scoring and steady goaltending to secure the narrow victory.
Beaver Dam scored once in each of the first two periods. Olivia Bates opened the scoring, while Brenna Rhodes added the eventual game-winner. Mayville junior Lilian Mansueto factored into the offense with an assist and helped drive puck possession throughout the game.
Metro Lynx cut the deficit to one on a goal by Held, but Mayville sophomore Arianna Wallace shut the door from there, finishing with 23 saves as Beaver Dam protected the lead late. The Golden Beavers were outshot 27–28 but limited second chances with strong defensive support.
On the back end, Horicon sophomore Lena Rueckert was part of a disciplined defensive effort that kept Metro Lynx to a single goal and allowed Beaver Dam to close out the one-goal contest.
Vs. Badger Lightning
The Beaver Dam Golden Beavers girls’ hockey co-op (12-6-1) earned a decisive 5–0 home win over the Badger Lightning (4-12-2) on Thursday, Feb. 5, controlling play from start to finish at the Beaver Dam Ice Arena.
Mayville junior Lilian Mansueto led the offensive effort with two goals and an assist, including a shorthanded tally midway through the third period that helped break the game open. Brenna Rhodes added two goals, while Emersen Damon scored once and assisted on another as Beaver Dam built its lead in each period.
The Golden Beavers outshot Badger Lightning 34–13 and limited quality chances with strong defensive play. Two Beaver Dam penalties sent the Golden Beavers to the box for four minutes, leaving the team shorthanded.
In net, Dot Baker recorded the shutout with 13 saves and 51:00 minutes of play. Badger Lightning goalie Olivia Renneberg faced heavy pressure, stopping 29 shots.
Beaver Dam struck early with a first-period goal by Rhodes, added another in the second, and sealed the victory with three third-period goals, including both of Mansueto’s tallies.
The Golden Beavers return to the ice Tuesday, Feb. 10, hosting the Bluebirds (7-10-2) and Thursday, Feb. 12, Arrowhead (6-13-1) at 7 p.m., with both games being played at Beaver Dam.
