Mayville Girls Bring Home First Team Trophy in Six Years at Horicon River Run

Posted

The Mayville Cross Country team had a breakthrough performance on Thursday, September 25, at the Horicon River Run. Racing against 20 schools, the Cardinal girls claimed second place overall, marking the program’s first team award in six years. The boys finished 14th in a strong field.

It was a day of fast running, as 20 of Mayville’s 30 athletes set either season or career bests. Leading the way for the girls, Sidney Davis earned an eighth-place medal, followed by Samara Herzog in 23rd place and Mette Genz in 25th place. On the junior high side, Norah Billington brought home a fifth-place medal while Eli Mageski medaled in 10th place.

Other varsity contributors included Crystall Mueller (34th), Destiny Giese (53rd), Bella Wege (60th), and Lydia Case (63rd). The JV girls also packed in tightly with strong races: Pearl Witek (7th), Helen Vanderloop (11th), Layla Budahn (13th), Madison Justman (16th), Alexandrea Shoemaker (19th), McKenzie Harris (24th), and Madi Beavers (36th).

For the boys, Adam Boehnlein paced the varsity squad with a 27th-place finish. He was followed by Caden Lindgren (52nd), Mac Livingston (81st), Tristan Feucht (95th), Alex Richter (107th), Ian Meyrose (116th), and Reid Schmidt (119th). In the JV race, Lachlan Worthington came in 56th place.

Middle school runners also gained valuable experience, with Keller Knutson finishing in 27th place and Cody Lindgren in  54th place in the boys’ race. For the girls, Astraya Ellingson placed in 71st and Adi Jacobs in 79th place.

“This was a huge step forward for our program,” the coaching staff noted. “To come away with a team trophy after so many years shows how hard these kids are working.”

The Cardinals return to action on Thursday, October 2, traveling to the Slinger Invite, hosted at Heritage Trails Park (4668 County Hwy E, Slinger). Parking is pay to park. Race times are: Boys Varsity 4:04, Girls Varsity 4:39, JV Boys 5:14, and JV Girls 5:20.
