The Mayville Cardinals girls’ basketball team continued their undefeated start to the season with two impressive victories, improving to 3–0 following wins over Lake Country Classical Academy and Chesterton Academy of Milwaukee.
Last week’s edition noted Mayville’s Nov. 21 matchup against Lake Country Classical Academy with stats not available prior to print time; official stats have now been finalized and added to this write-up.
Friday, Nov. 21
Mayville delivered a statement win at home in non-conference play, overwhelming Lake Country Classical Academy 87–3. The Cardinals exploded for 59 points in the first half and added 28 more in the second as the game moved to a running clock early.
Senior Layla Budahn led all scorers with 20 points on 10-of-13 shooting, adding six rebounds (five offensive) and an incredible 10 steals. Freshman Brielle Ehlers was nearly perfect from the floor, scoring 13 points on 6-of-7 shooting with a three-pointer. Senior Madison Justman added 12 points on 6-of-11 shooting and dished out a team-high five assists with zero turnovers.
Junior Reagan Hardesty pulled down eight rebounds, and sophomore Pearl Witek added seven, nine steals, and four assists in a standout defensive performance. Freshman Ady Christian added five assists and just one turnover.
Tuesday, Nov. 25
Back on the road, the Cardinals kept rolling with a 64–36 win over Chesterton Academy of Milwaukee. Mayville led 27–17 at halftime before surging in the second half behind improved shooting and tough defensive pressure.
Freshman Ady Christian led the Cardinals with 16 points, going 6-of-13 from the field and knocking down 4-of-6 from three. She added a team-high eight assists while committing just three turnovers, running the offense with confidence.
Senior Layla Budahn delivered another strong outing with 11 points, nine rebounds, seven steals, and a block. Senior Madison Justman added eight points, six rebounds, four assists, and two steals in a balanced performance, while junior Chassia Geschke secured eight rebounds off the bench.
The Cardinals outscored Chesterton 37–19 in the second half to secure the win and move to 3–0 on the season.
Mayville now turns its attention to its upcoming home matchup against Omro (1-0) on Dec. 2, followed by a road test at Laconia (0-2) on Dec. 5 with tip-off at 7 p.m.
