Mayville Finalizing Application for Relief Fund Distribution

Posted

The City of Mayville Common Council held a special meeting on Monday, July 28, primarily to discuss the process for delegating donated funds for Mayville resident disaster relief.
An application was drawn up based on what was discussed at the regular meeting earlier in the month.
At the time of the meeting, $26,883 is available in the fund, and it is still open for donations.
Mayor Rob Boelk continued to recommend that the council have the Community Development Authority evaluate applications once they set the criteria.
On the proposed application, residents would be asked to “Please check the type of assistance you are applying for: tree replacement, tree removal, insurance deductible, household loss not covered by insurance.”

Headstones in the cemetery were discussed as an item to use the funds for in the previous meeting, but it was determined that it will be up to surviving family members to make those repairs. For those without family, there is a volunteer group based out of West Bend that is offering to help in the cemetery.
It was suggested by Parks Director Jacob Schellpfeffer that tree replacement be taken off the list because the city already has a program in place for residents to purchase trees. The Parks Department also received a donation to help with tree removal around the city.
The council also suggested setting a limit of $500 per applicant.
The deadline to apply will be October 15, and revisions to the application will be made, with the final copy ready later this month.
