The Mayville cross country team closed out its season with a strong showing at the Sheboygan Lutheran Sectional on Saturday, Oct. 25. The girls' team placed seventh out of 26 schools, while the boys finished 15th overall, competing against some of the toughest programs in the region.
Leading the way for the Cardinal girls was Sidney Davis, who earned a 16th-place finish in a field of 122 runners. She was followed by Mette Genz (34th), Crystall Mueller (48th), Samara Herzog (53rd), Bella Wege (77th), Lydia Case (84th), and Alex Shoemaker (103rd), rounding out a consistent team effort.
On the boys’ side, Adam Boehnlein paced Mayville with a 35th-place finish, followed by Caden Lindgren (59th), Reid Schmidt (86th), Phoenix Ellingson (100th), Mac Livingston (101st), Tristen Feucht (104th), and Ian Meyrose (135th) out of 139 runners.
Earlier in the week, several Cardinals competed at the Non-Sectional Runners Meet hosted by Lomira on Thursday, Oct. 23, where they brought home multiple medals. Destiny Giese led the way by taking first place, followed by Helen Vanderloop (4th), Pearl Witek (11th), Layla Budahn (18th), and Magdalene Beavers (20th). In the boys' race, Lachlan Worthington ran his season-best time, earning an 11th-place finish.
“We’re proud of how our runners competed and improved throughout the season,” said the Mayville coaching staff. “From our varsity leaders at sectionals to those setting new personal bests at Lomira, every athlete contributed to the success and spirit of this team.”
