Mayville Boys Take First at Flyway Tri, Girls Finish Third

Posted

Under sunny and warm skies, the Mayville track teams competed in the Campbellsport Flyway Tri Conference Meet on Tuesday, April 22. The boys' team edged out the host school by a single point to claim the team title with 82 points, while the girls' team earned a solid third-place finish with 60 points in a competitive four-team field.

Sophomore standout Mac Livingston led the way for the boys, winning both the pole vault and high jump, while also finishing second in both the 110m and 300m hurdle races. The boys' 4x100m relay team of Braxton Wiese, Chase Merritt, Landon Baker, and Joren Schlender raced to victory in 46.52, their fastest mark in recent years.

Joren Schlender also swept the horizontal jumps, winning both the long jump and triple jump. Braxton Wiese captured the 100m dash title and took second in the long jump, while Chase Merritt finished right behind him in the 100m, securing valuable points.

On the girls’ side, Sidney Davis claimed the 800m title and helped lead the 4x800m relay team along with Destiny Giese, Mette Gentz, and Crystall Mueller, to first place in 11:43.94. Lydia Case placed second in the 100m hurdles and pole vault, and Allison Schellpfeffer turned in a strong second-place finish in the 400m dash.

Coach Berry was pleased with the performance, noting, “We had a good meet with our sprinters, hurdlers, and jumpers doing very well. Two-thirds of the team had season or personal bests in this meet.”

With strong showings across the board, the Cardinals continue to gain momentum heading into the heart of the season as they compete on Tuesday, April 29, hosting the Mayville Quad.
