The Horicon Marshmen boys’ basketball team (15-5) secured a decisive victory over Lake Country Classical Academy (6-13) on Saturday, February 14, with a final score of 68-46.
Horicon’s offense came alive in the second half, pulling away from Lake Country Classical Academy. Quin Jackl set the tone early with an opening layup, and the Marshmen’s lead was extended on a key three-pointer from Christian Schwartz when the score was 41-35.
The team continued to find the net with several clutch plays in the final minutes. Jackl proved a long-range threat, sinking two three-pointers, one with about eight minutes remaining and another moments before the final buzzer. Barrett Meyer also contributed with a well-placed layup in the closing two minutes. The night concluded with Logan Robenhorst adding a rare three-pointer, capping off an exciting second half for the Marshmen.
vs CWC
The Horicon boys’ basketball team secured a victory over Central Wisconsin Christian (CWC) on Thursday, February 12, improving their record to 14-5. The final score was 52-41, in favor of the Marshmen.
Horicon established an early advantage, leading CWC 29-23 at halftime and maintained control through the second half to win the contest.
The offense was powered by a dynamic duo: Jay Graven and Barrett Meyer. Graven led all scorers with 23 points, while Meyer contributed 18 points. Both players were also dominant on the boards, each pulling down seven rebounds. Graven was responsible for the Marshmen’s only three-pointer of the night.
at Cambridge
The Horicon Marshmen (13-5) fought hard but ultimately fell to the Cambridge Blue Jays (12-7) with a final score of 58-55 in a boys’ basketball matchup on Monday, February 9.
The game started slowly for Horicon, who quickly found themselves down 7-0 early in the first half before Barrett Meyer broke the scoring drought with a layup.
The team showed resilience, with a notable play coming five-and-a-half minutes in when Jay Graven grabbed a rebound and set up Quin Jackl for two points.
The roles reversed just over a minute later as Jackl found Graven for a layup, but the Marshmen still trailed 32-27 heading into halftime.
The second half brought a flurry of long-range shots as Graven opened the scoring with a three-pointer, immediately followed by one from Jackl to keep the momentum going.
Horicon took the lead, 41-39, with over 10 minutes left to play, cemented by another three-pointer from Meyer.
Graven netted his second three of the half with approximately seven minutes remaining, and Schwartz followed suit with a three-pointer about a minute later, contributing to a three-point frenzy.
Despite the late surge and determination, Horicon could not maintain their lead, dropping the close contest 58-55.
The Marshmen took on the undefeated Oakfield Oaks on Tuesday night, after print time. They play Valley Christian at home on Friday, Feb. 20, at 7:15 p.m. Then on Monday, Feb. 23, they travel to Mayville for a non-conference rivalry game, starting at 7:15 p.m.Horicon, 55 at Cambridge, 58
