The Horicon girls’ basketball team (6-6) fell just short in a thrilling match against Valley Christian (4-6) on Tuesday, Jan. 13, losing 72-68. Despite a strong start and multiple clutch shots, Horicon couldn’t hold on to their early lead as Valley Christian pulled ahead in the second half to secure the win.
Horicon came out strong, taking an early lead thanks to precision shooting from behind the arc. Emily Bunkoske kicked things off with an early three-pointer, quickly followed by Aubrey Ehrlich hitting a three from a similar spot. Ehrlich continued to be a dynamic force in the first half, breaking up a pass and capitalizing with a fast-break layup, before sinking another three-pointer later in the half.
However, Valley Christian managed to take the lead in the second half. The game remained a nail-biter, with Ehrlich stepping up again to tie the game at 48-48 with another three-pointer. Bunkoske also contributed another crucial three in the second half to keep Horicon in the fight.
Mady Rinderle was a standout performer for Horicon, dominating the paint to record a massive double-double with 24 points and 12 rebounds. Aubrey Ehrlich also had a notable performance, finishing the contest with five three-pointers to her name.
