On January 16, the Lomira girls’ basketball team lost 81-42 to North Fond du Lac in the first game of the boys’ and girls’ doubleheader on the road at NFDL.
Josie Christian scored Lomira’s (12-3, 5-2) first four points of the game, including a steal resulting in a fastbreak layup to give the Lions an early 4-2 lead over NFDL (11-3, 5-2).
The Lions got three-pointers from Lily Christian and Whitney Witkowski to put the score at 18-14 in favor of the Orioles.
NFDL outscored Lomira 18-6 during the rest of the first half to give the Orioles a 36-20 halftime lead.
The second half highlight for Lomira was Josie Christian scoring her 1,000th career point as the sophomore star guard for the Lions.
The game ended with an 81-42 victory for NFDL on the Lions’ home court.
Lomira was led by Josie Christian with 21 points in the Flyway Conference matchup.
Vs WLA
On January 13, Lomira girls’ basketball defeated Winnebago Lutheran Academy 70-45 at home in their Flyway Conference matchup.
Lomira (12-3, 5-2) got out to a 5-0 lead over WLA (7-6, 3-4) thanks to a three-pointer from Kennedy Goebel and a basket from Josie Christian.
J. Christian stole the ball and sprinted down the court with the ball before doing her patented step-back to knock down a three-pointer for the Lions to give Lomira an 11-8 lead over the Vikings
The Lions’ Jadalee Luedtke hit a three-pointer, assisted by J. Christian, to give Lomira some breathing room in the first half with a 22-14 lead.
Lily Christian was able to splash a three-pointer from the corner right before the halftime buzzer to put the Lions’ lead at 35-25 at the break.
Three pointers from Luedtke and J. Christian would push the Lions’ lead to 45-30 over the visiting Vikings.
Lomira’s hot three-point shooting team continued when Whitney Witkowski joined the party, and Goebel made a floater to expand Lomira’s lead to the biggest margin of the game at 62-37.
The two teams traded baskets during the rest of the game, with Lomira coasting to a convincing 70-45 conference victory.
Josie Christian led Lomira with 29 points in their matchup against WLA.
Lomira girls’ basketball hosted Omro after print time on January 20 and will travel to Laconia on January 23 at 7 p.m.
