Lomira’s Jackson Goebel Finishes High School Career at WBCA All-Star Game

Posted

On June 26, Jackson Goebel will be playing in the Division 4 WBCA All-Star Game in Wisconsin Dells, to wrap up his high school career as a Lomira Lion.
When did you start playing basketball?
“I began playing basketball for the Lomira youth program in third grade and haven’t put a basketball down since,” said Jackson Goebel.
What have been your favorite basketball moments in your career?

“In youth basketball, my favorite moment is by far my double overtime game-winner vs Wrightstown in the sixth-grade state tournament, and the aftermath of that game is still one of my favorite pictures to look at to this day,” said Goebel. “Throughout high school, I had some great moments during the high school and AAU seasons; however, a moment that tops every other is when we won the Regional Championship at Pardeeville and seeing how excited the crowd was that we brought a Regional Championship back to Lomira.”
Why is basketball important to you?
“Basketball is important to me because it has always been a constant in my life because no matter what happens the ball always bounces back after your dribble, and it is also important to me because basketball is a sport where you can be with friends or teammates to have a great time or if you just need to get away, can go and shoot wherever you find a hoop,” said Goebel. “Ever since third grade, basketball has been so important to me, and over time, the love and grind for the game just grew larger, and it even grew to the point where the sound of a ball dribbling or going through the net has become relaxing.”
Who have been the biggest influences on you during your basketball career?
“First, my dad has played a huge role in my basketball career with coaching me all the way through eighth grade and drove me to be the best I am, and was the one who always drove me to be the best I am. Oftentimes, he would take me to the gym to shoot, work on my craft. When I started playing AAU, my dad often drove me across the Midwest, most times late at night after baseball and I wouldn’t be the player I am today without my dad,” said Goebel. “Next, my mom has also been a huge part of the basketball player I have become, especially mentally, and I also wouldn’t have been able to achieve my goals without her.” Goebel continued, “Finally, all of my coaches I have had throughout the past nine years, including Coach Maulick, Coach Lloyd, Jeff Zingsheim, Coach Schaeve, Coach Hastings, Coach Zedler, and Coach Witkowski. As well as everyone else who has been a part of my journey thus far, I couldn’t have become the player I am without them.”
What are your future plans in basketball?
“Next year, I plan to attend Carthage College to join the basketball team, and hopefully have a very successful college career,” said Goebel.
“I am extremely happy for Jackson and I have great respect for him as a person and the leader he has developed into over his four years of varsity basketball with the capability of being the leading scorer on any team but would always make the right pass and play to get the win,” said former Lomira Coach Tim Zedler. “I can’t count the number of times he put the team above himself, and because of that, his teams experienced a lot of success because the best ones are not just good themselves, but they make everyone around them better, even the coaches, and Jackson is that guy.”
“From early on, it was clear that Jackson was destined for greatness on the basketball court, plus other sports (led the football program to their first State Championship in 2024), with unmatched work ethic and dedication, which distinguished him from his peers, where he was known as a ‘sports rat’ reflecting his intense commitment to basketball and his relentless drive to improve,” said former Lomira Coach Tyler Witkowski. “Jackson’s abilities were comprehensive with his basketball IQ along with his strategic understanding across various sports, which made him a truly unique player.”
